a prep school campus up in flames this morning as firefighters are there battling a massive blaze. this is in menlo park. thank you for joining us, i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. that fire at the beechwood school has now been burning more than two hours. damian trujillo joins us live at the school with the very latest. damian, we saw they had to break out the ladder truck for this one. >> reporter: yeah, you know, this is a very stubborn fire. they have been pouring water on this the last couple of hours and still haven't been able to put it out. this fire is secluded to two portables actually here on the east end of the campus of the school right next to the railroad tracks. i mean these flames have been pouring out of these two portables since i got here about 45 minutes ago, half hour ago, and they still have not been able to put this out. a lot of white smoke billowing

from this fire. i don't know what to tell you, they are still battling this fire. the good news to come out of all of this is that we have no reports of injuries at this time. we're at a location that we're kind of secluded from where the information is coming from. it's on the other side of the campus. we're going to go there after this live report to get more information. we understand, however, that school has been cancelled here for the next two days and possibly longer in the foreseeable future. but again, the water keeps being poured onto these two portables behind me and no end in sight. these flames keep billowing out of the building. it's quite fascinating. some people coming out to see what's exactly going on. pg&e is also here because there may be some power line issues. we'll keep you posted and stay here at the scene. i'm damian trujillo, "today in the bay." now to the very latest on a developing story overseas. the international crisis unfolding in northern africa and now it's expanding over to the middle east as another american embassy has been stormed by

protesters overnight. you can see the big clash there. this was at an embassy in yemen, just stormed by protesters. very, very angry about an anti-islam film produced right here in the united states. now, the independent film seen initially by just a handful of people has now caused what you can see is a major international crisis. with very violent protests going on in cairo, egypt, as well as a deadly attack on the u.s. embassy in ben gaghazi, libya, to the death of four americans, including ambassador chris stevens. right now we will take you live to cairo to look at what is happening in the streets. you can see chaos there. protesters demonstrating around the embassy. they have actually attacked the embassy, throwing rocks. the police there trying to enforce some type of security, throwing rocks and tear gas back at the protesters, trying to keep them down. again, a lot of unrest as this

unfolds. a very fluid situation and mayhem in the streets. we will keep you posted as more information comes in, but not good at all. at the center of this unfolding international crisis, a small independent movie, as jon mentioned, initially only screened for a handful of people in a small southern california theater and then posted online. nbc news has decided not to air clips of the 14-minute film which mocks muslims and the prophet muhammad. so far there are very few details available about the production group responsible for the film. attempts to reach the filmmaker have led to a 55-year-old man in los angeles who claims he only advised the film's director, but he says he knows the filmmaker and says the film was made to support coptic christian beliefs. the church has denounced this film. we can tell you that film still remains accessible on youtube and google says it has absolutely no plans to take it down. scott mcgrew is here with us in

studio. scott, that clip is blocked over in libya and in egypt, but the truth be told, it can be seen just about everywhere else. >> yeah, you could look at it right now, it's still available in america. and youtube says it will continue to be available. google does have a policy, against hate speech and violence but handles this issue on a case-by-case basis. the company has had to deal with these sorts of controversial videos before in turkey and indonesia, where it's pulled videos that insulted leaders there but did so only locally to adhere to local laws. google has to do that just like any other company, but it didn't block the videos elsewhere. the big question this morning, jon, is the controversial film blocked in libya and egypt, what about yemen or for that matter, iraq, iran and other predominantly muslim countries. is this some censorship that will have to continue to widen

as they deal with it. >> thank you, scott. this morning the bay area continues to mourn the death of chris stevens. he's the u.s. ambassador to libya killed during the protests and attacks in benghazi earlier this week. at 6:45 this morning, we'll take you to uc berkeley, where stevens earned his undergraduate degree and show you how current students there are coming together to remember stevens' life and legacy. for more on stevens, including an interview with his college roommate, visit nbcbayarea.com. we'll also continue to provide updates on this developing story throughout this broadcast. now to the latest on a developing story in san jose in the south bay. right now police on the hunt for suspects connected to a fight that ended up with two people being stabbed. investigators on scene say it happened just after 2:15 this morning near the intersection of north 9th street and east julian street. police arrived to find two men, ages 20 and 21, suffering multiple stab wounds.

they were both rushed to hospitals, but so far no word or reports on their condition or of any suspects. we will continue, of course, to follow this story and get you the updates as soon as we get them. thousands of people, including the governor, political dignitaries and law enforcement officers from across the country are expected to gather in vacaville this morning to pay their final respects to kenyon youngstrom. he's a chp officer who died after being shot during a traffic stop on interstate 680 last tuesday near alamo. he was taken off of life support the following day after his organs were harvested for donation. the funeral for officer youngstrom being held at mission church in vacaville at 10:00 this morning. christie smith is gathering information along the mert cade route this morning. she will join us with an update in a few minutes. now, before the service begins, a procession in officer youngstrom's honor will bring traffic to a halt on several roads and highways in the north and east bay. our traffic anchor, mike inouye,

has more on the procession route. mike. >> good morning. this is isolated to the north bay. we're starting in st. helena. they will go down highway 29 south through napa and connecting over to interstate 80. that's highway 12. they're going east opposite your main commute up into vacaville and ending at the funeral site over at mission church and that's a 10:00 funeral. all the activity hopefully will be isolated to that route. that will be a big deal for st. helena and napa. we'll show you what realtime sensors are showing us. a smooth drive, this is opposite your main commute. and your commute west 80 heading over toward american canyon and past jameson canyon are moving very smoothly in this area. the most impact is for highway 29 coming down in toward the vallejo area, heading toward the carquinez bridge, which is moving very nicely as well across the water and all the way

down. to the bay bridge, nothing unexpected. here are your cash lanes here and the fastrak lane, a good advantage right here. looking over toward the peninsula, traffic on the northbound side moves smoothly. over here just off to the side about two or three football fields as the crow flies, where is where damian is following that menlo park fire. so this smoke may be more visible as the sun comes up but right now we are seeing it's blending into some of the lower clouds in the area along the peninsula. no problems for 101 or the speeds. christina, we're talking about we see some low clouds now but how is the rest of the day going to shape up around the bay? >> we're not going to see that cloud cover last very long at all. good morning to you. beautiful live picture here over san francisco. a lot of this is actually daly city but this is the view from high atop san bruno. what you will notice, you'll be looking down at the cloud bank this morning as it's being forced right to the surface by high pressure.

6:12 now. in vacaville this morning, thousands of people are expected to gather to pay their final respects to a chp officer who was killed in the line of duty. christie smith is live in vacaville where chp officer kenyon youngstrom's funeral will be held just hours from now. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, mar lachlt you know when we last checked in with you about 30 minutes ago, we were right in front of the church, but the chp just moved all the media back. there are about ten television trucks out here already. moved us back because they're expecting guests to start arriving very soon. thousands of people expected, of course, law enforcement but also members of the public who were so moved by officer kenyon youngstrom's loss when he was shot. youngstrom was 37 years old, a seven-year veteran of the california highway patrol, a

husband, a father of four. outside the mission church in vacaville this morning where the public memorial will be held, there is a sign out. god bless chp officer kenyon youngstrom. he was shot last week in a traffic stop on interstate 680 in alamo. his organs donated to save the lives of four people. he worked out of the martinez area chp office. officers remember him as a man who always put his family first. now, today governor jerry brown expected to attend along with attorney general todkamila harr. the public service starts at 10:00 this morning and the chp is emphasizing that the public is welcome to attend. reporting live in vacaville, christie smith, "today in the bay." >> we will be streaming officer youngstrom's memorial service live on our website, nbcbayarea.com starting at 10:00

this morning. 6:14. if you are just waking up with us, here's a quick recap of the morning's top stories. a major fire is burning right now at the beechwood school on terminal avenue in menlo park. the fire began just before 4:00 this morning. so far no word on the cause. in san jose, two people have been stabbed this morning at the intersection of north ninth street and east julian street. both of those men are now hospitalized. no word yet on their condition. a retired priest accused of lying on the stand will not be charged with perjury. the santa clara county district attorney says there is not enough evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that father jerry lindner perjured himself. lindner was severely beaten by william lynch. lynch claims lindner molested him. during the trial, father lindner testified he never molested lynch, something even the prosecutors say is a lie. the d.a. met with lynch yesterday before announcing that

no charges would be filed. 6:14 right now. several family members of the victims in that colorado theater shooting are now very concerned money collected in a fund-raising campaign is not getting to those in need. representatives of the group say after three meetings with the fund-raisers, at this point they still feel that money is not going to be distributed in a timely manner. they say the 720 campaign collected more than $5 million, but has so far given out no more than $5,000 to etch auach of th families affected. the shooting spree left 12 dead, injuring 58 others and those people facing hefty medical bills. meantime, colorado will be in the spotlight during this decision 2012 presidential campaign. the president arrived at buckley air force base in aurora, colorado, where that shooting happened late last night. he will attend a grassroots rally later this morning in the city of golden. also republican presidential candidate mitt romney will

appear at a rally in virginia. in a sign of the times, social media could end up playing major roles in this year's general election. a study done by nature magazine found one message sent to 60 million facebook users back on election day 2010 of course led to a significant increase in voting. nearly 350,000 additional people showed up to vote. now, researchers say social messages make a strong impact on people and when a user sees their friends have actually voted, they are more inclined to go out and vote themselves. social networking also has its dangers. >> our business and tech guru, scott mcgrew, says a tweet that came out of the cairo embassy, the one that caused such a huge ruckus in washington, came from just one man. >> it created maybe the biggest misunderstanding in the history of twitter. to remind you, the american embassy in cairo tweeted we condemn the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt

the religious feelings of muslims. we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. this tweet came hours before the protests in egypt. but some news agencies, notably fox news, thought the tweet came after our embassy was attacked and equated it to a victim apologizing to its attacker, a claim mitt romney then repeated. foreign policy magazine revealed that tweet indeed came from one staffer, larry schwartz, who was specifically warned not to issue the tweet but did anyway. this raises questions as to why american foreign policy can be affected by one employee with a twitter account and reminds news agencies and presidential candidates to be very careful when basing news stories and announcements on a single tweet. other news, as everyone on planet earth knows, iphone 5 was revealed yesterday. it's a catch-up phone bringing some of the features like a wider screen and lte 4g to an apple phone for the first time.

apple shares jumped $9 wednesday which is actually unusual. apple investors usually buy on the rumor, sell on the news, but pretty much every stock was up yesterday on renewed hopes about europe and possible fed action today as well. jon and marla. >> scots, thanks so much. it is 6:18. we check back in with christina loren to check out our friday eve weather forecast. >> oh, yes. friday eve. it's going to be really nice today. i got a little bit too into it that time. we've got a good-looking forecast. you want to get into your cool clothes today. light colors, breathable cotton highly advised as it's going to be hot. taking a live look, that there is mount diablo. you'll see a blanket of clouds beneath mount diablo. that is over the city by the bay. we're going to burn off those clouds really quickly this morning. now taking you live to san jose. you can see the lights here, a little moisture in the atmosphere, a partly cloudy start. lots of sunshine and warm conditions. we're already starting out in

the upper 50s and 60s. 62 degrees to start. 6 c 6:18 and you're at 62 in sunnyvale. 48 degrees in santa rosa. that will keep your temperatures at bay just a touch today. you'll end up in the upper 80s. so air quality still in the moderate range in the central and the east bay. we were in the good range everywhere yesterday but not in the unhealthy range. if you don't have an air conditioner, it's going to be hot enough for you to want to kick on that ac later on today. it will be a northerly breeze, downsloping winds, so we do have elevated fire danger today. it's going to be very dry out there. as we head throughout tomorrow, temperatures stay hot. your seven-day outlook really tells the weather story. we're starting today 88 degrees in san jose, 96 in livermore, 72 in san francisco. by tomorrow just a touch cooler. don't forget, you can catch those giants taking on the diamondbacks. oh, 6:40 tomorrow night the first place nl west.

temperatures are going to come down just a little bit but staying hot all weekend long, which is great news. we've got two weekends of summertime left. do you want to hit the beach this weekend? you can do so comfortably. next weekend not looking so great for that as we could get some showers wednesday into thursday. that is the next weather story we'll be watching for you. we want to take a look at your drive with mike. >> you know, things change dramatically in the south bay just over the last few minutes. we saw traffic stacking up as we watched our downtown san jose cam. this is northbound 87 past the children's discovery museum and adobe, the big glass building off the freeway. we now see it moving as an accident clears. let me show you on the map. that's just north of the 280 interchange at about park avenue. we had two lanes blocked about ten minutes. now the lanes look like they have cleared and traffic starts to move more smoothly, so this should start to even out but this is when traffic starts to build for the south bay. specifically 87 coming into downtown. and here north of 680 heading up toward the airport, some

activity there as well. let's get a look outside and we'll show you how things are shaping up a little further nor. this is northbound 880 past the truck scales and tesla. southbound side we see someone hitting the brakes but no accidents as you're approaching mission. i'll track that and let you know if there's anything else to report, like some debris. looks at that, folks are hitting their brakes even now. be careful out there. i'll track that. meanwhile the bay bridge toll plaza shows you the backup in all lanes. looks like those metering lights are turned on and in effect for even the fastrak lanes, just back to the 880 overcrossing. the commute is on, guys, back to you. the time now is 6:21. coming up, a badge of courage. a bay area firefighter risking his life to save others. we'll tell you how he's being honored for bravery just ahead. also, a live look at the hp pavilion. will this year's pro hockey season be ice? the latest on the looming lockout still ahead.

it is 6:24, welcome back, everybody. the very first man in history to ever step foot on the moon being honor they had morning in the nation's capital. astronaut neil armstrong being memorialized in a service at the national cathedral. armstrong was commander of the apollo 11 mission back in 1969. that was landing on the moon. when he stepped out of the capsule onto the moon's surface, he uttered perhaps the most

famous one-liner in history. "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." armstrong died just last month from complications after heart surgery. 6:25. a true bay area hero will be honored in sacramento today. william molkeen will receive the medal of valor. the san francisco firefighter saved an elderly couple who was trapped in a burning building in chinatown on new year's day in 2011. in order to reach the third floor window, he crawled across a makeshift bridge and carried the couple back across on his back. after 30 years with the san francisco fire department, he retired last year. 6:25 right now. speaking of firefighters, we've been reporting on that big fire going on at menlo park at a prep school. christina loren is here. is the weather going to be helping them out at all with that blaze? >> not at all, jon, unfortunately. the winds in menlo park right now are light but they are

expected to ramp up as we head throughout the afternoon and we're going to see the dry northerly winds as opposed to the westerly wind that carries in the moisture from the pacific. it's the dry heat that we'll see today. so hopefully they can get that thing knocked down as we head through the next few hours before the winds pick up. 96 inland, 85 bayside and 74 at the coast. let's check on your drive, it's a thursday morning. hi, mike. >> hi. it's 6:26, folks. as you know things are getting crowded out there but the jam we saw in fremont, people hitting their brakes somewhere around the truck scale, that smoothed out so now it's just general lemore congested, but speeds still above 55. the peninsula looks nice as well. northbound getting a little more crowded north of university towards willow. we've been watching that smoke because we're talking about that fire in menlo park. damian is on scene but we don't see that plume that we saw earlier. i'm sure he'll have an update for us a little later on. here's a question, is the pro hockey season about to hit the skids? we can keep our fingers crossed

firefighters are up against in menlo park this morning, as a massive fire burning at a private prep school. it's a breaking story we've been tracking all morning long. good morning to you, it is 6:30. i'm marla tellez. >> and i'm jon kelley. good morning, everybody. this is a very fluid scene. that blaze has been burning more than two hours. we have a live picture at the scene, the fire burning at the beechwood school on terminal drive in menlo park. we're being told so far no injuries to report, but the school will be cancelling classes at least until next week. no surprise there. it's a big-time blaze. damian trujillo is at the scene and will have more coming up in a live report in just a few minutes from right now. now to the latest on a developing story in the middle east where the u.s. embassy in yemen has now become the latest american outpost to be stormed by protesters angry about an anti-islam film. hundreds of protesters chanting "death to america." they burned the flag and forced

their way into the compound early today. protesters got through security but did not enter the main building. that protest is similar to one that happened at the u.s. embassy in the egyptian capital of cairo tuesday night. as we reported yesterday, a mob of libyans also attacked the u.s. consulate in the eastern city of benghazi tuesday, killing u.s. ambassador chris stevens and three other americans. now, stevens grew up in piedmont. he graduate fred piedmont high and earned his undergraduate degree at uc berkeley and a law degree at uc hastings in san francisco. the violence has raised fears that protests could spread across the muslim world. this is a live picture of what's happening around the embassy in cairo. security is being stepped up at all u.s. embassies nationwide. coming up at 6:45, team coverage of those new security measures and the political fallout as the obama administration deals with the unfolding crisis. closer to home right now,

thousands of law enforcement officers from across the state and the entire nation preparing to gather in vacaville, paying their final respects to a chp officer killed in the line of duty. christie smith is live in vacaville where chp officer kenyon youngstrom's memorial well be held just a few hours from right now. a very somber and really a heart-breaking day out there, christie. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. you know, we are starting to see some activity out here, preparations under way at the mission church outside already. they have rows and rows of chairs set up for an overflow crowd. of course they're expecting thousands of people, police officers, deputies, but also members of the public who were so moved by the tragic loss of chp officer kenyon youngstrom, a 37-year-old father of four, a husband, a seven-year veteran of the chp. outside the church this morning there is a sign up, god bless chp officer kenyon youngstrom. that's what people will see when they drive in this morning. he worked out of the martinez

area chp office and had recently transferred back there. neighbors left flowers and notes for him. in covering this story earlier, i spoke with people who showed up to share stories about youngstrom, that he pulled them over but didn't write them a ticket, just told them to fix the problem with their car or trailer. they said he was a very friendly officer. youngstrom was shot last week in a traffic stop on 680 in alamo and then taken off lifesupport. his organs donated to help save the lives of four people. today governor jerry brown, the attorney general harris all expected here. the service starts at 10:00 this morning and the chp is trying to emphasize that it is open to the public. reporting live in vacaville, christie smith, "today in the bay." 6:33. california's supreme court is now refusing to overturn the conviction of a former b.a.r.t. police officer. the state's highest court turned down an appeal jed by johanes mehserle. he was convicted back in 2010 in

the shooting death of oakland b.a.r.t. passenger, oscar grant. mehserle said it was an accident, but jurors ruled he acted with criminal negligence. mehserle was later paroled after serving 11 months in prison. his lawyers will now ask the federal courts to overturn his conviction. after six very tough months, the search for missing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar now being scaled back. the mark klaas organization says from now on volunteers will only conduct searches one day a week on saturdays. previously they were searching every wednesday and saturday. volunteers will now use wednesday to help identify new areas that they can possibly search. sierra, if you recall, vanish e back on march 16th. the suspect in this case will appear in court later on this month. at this point he has yet to enter a plea on murder and kidnapping charges in this case. the man accused of slamming his pickup truck into a family

in walnut creek killing one woman and injuring another is out of jail this morning. last weekend police arrested 53-year-old hossein tabrizi on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter but he has now been released. a mother visiting her son and his pregnant wife was killed. the daughter-in-law remains in critical condition. california law requires suspects be released from custody after 72 hours if no charges have been filed. police continue to investigate this crash and say they plan to submit the case to the district attorney for charges in the near future. tabrizi has a criminal record, including a prior dui conviction. we can tell you business is very good for b.a.r.t. so good in fact the agency is scrambling trying to meet demand. b.a.r.t. directors say they have seen record weekday ridership, including three week days of more than 400,000 riders. b.a.r.t. says 85% of its fleet is in use on a typical day and right now is very anxious to add new train cars. more than 400 new cars are on

order, but until then b.a.r.t. is advising riders to be very considerate of one another and be aware and make some room for everybody who's also on board. good morning to you, it is 6:36. we want to go ahead and check the forecast with christina. another nice day on tap for us. >> well, it's going to be a little bit hot inland but really nice right here in san jose. also right at the coast, conditions in the 70s, so it's going to be really nice, warmer than yesterday by about 5 to 10 degrees, 15 degrees in some cases. make sure you're ready for that. as we head throughout the day your temperatures will jump from the 60s and upper 50s into the upper 90s. 99 degrees today in fairfield. so this is the story of the day. we stop the clock on your futurecast at 11:00 a.m. and you can see mostly clear over the greater bay area. a little fog hugging the coastline near san francisco, but by noon today those clouds break apart. we start to get that offshore push. clouds push back out to sea and we'll see a nice, clear evening.

now in washington state firefighters there have it very bad as they continue to battle dozens of wildfires just burning out of control across that state. the fires burning near the cascade mountains. they have destroyed, the blazes have, at least 60,000 acres. many of these fires were sparked by weekend lightning strikes. rough. no end in sight for the ongoing teachers strike in the country's third largest city. teachers are on the picket line for the fourth day in a row. they are battling the district over performance evaluations based in part on how well students succeed. this is under way in chicago. some 350,000 students have been out of class there this week. all right, 6:41 right now. coming up, the unfolding crisis in northern africa spreading over to the middle east now. we'll let you know what we've uncovered about the controversial film that's really at the heart of the violent protests. plus why actors who played parts say they were duped by the film

right now we have the very latest on our breaking story happening in the peninsula. a major fire there burning for more than two hours at a kindergarten prep school in menlo park. this fire started just before 4:00 a.m. at the beechwood school. damian trujillo ijoining us live from that school. he's been on scene checking things out and has what you need to know if your child happens to attend this school an if you plan to be driving in that area. damian, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. it looks like firefighters have finally gotten the upper hand on

this stub born fire and stubborn is the way the fire investigator described it. flames were shooting out of these portable buildings at this school for a good part of two and a half hours or so, but they have been pouring water for the last two and a half hours and it seems like they have finally gotten an upper hand on it. if your child does go to this school the principal is saying no need to come to school today or tomorrow, it's going to be a while before they get things settled. earlier the flames were just shooting up in the air. stub orn is how the fire investigator started and they got into a defensive mode. they could not go into the buildings to fight this fire. they had to retreat and go back outside and shoot water from above and from the side of the building. and the fire investigator, john johnson, described why it was so difficult to fight this fire. >> right now we still have a fire that we're trying to act e actively suppress, being a

little stubborn to put out. we had a call that came in from a passer by that smelled smoke off constitution avenue. our engine company redirected everybody to the end of terminal to beechwood school. so we still have just a single alarm fire in the administration portion building of the school and we had a partial roof collapse. it's difficult to get water into the fire which is why we still have active aggression. >> reporter: and just about 20 seconds ago, the firefighters stopped pouring water on this fire. it looked like they have things under control. it looks like two portables are now completely gone, they're damaged. and so it also seems like these were the administrative building -- administrative wing of this school, so no classrooms have been damaged so far, just the fire was contained to the administrative part of the school here. the good part also is that there were no injuries. that's the very latest. i'm damian trujillo, "today in

the bay." an update to our developing story overseas as we take a live look at what's under way in cairo right now. police in egypt's capital have been clashing with protesters near the u.s. embassy for three days in a row. you can see all the mayhem that's taking place. police and protesters firing tear gas -- police firing tear gas at the protesters there. now, earlier this morning, protesters stormed the u.s. embassy in yemen. those protesters are angry about an anti-muslim film proud here in america. the independent film seen initially by just a handful of people has now caused an international crisis that includes violent protests in cairo as well as a deadly attack on the u.s. embassy in benghazi, libya. that attack killed american ambassador and bay area native chris stevens and three other americans. again, let's take a live look at the scene that's under way in cairo. we're also just getting reports, hearing reports that the canadian embassy has been closed

in cairo, which is very near the u.s. embassy in cairo. it has been closed as a precaution. again, we are getting reports the canadian embassy is now closed in cairo. we are working to get that information confirmed. >> nonstop chaos in the streets there. this morning bay area native christopher stevens very much in the hearts an minds of people across the country as the nation mourns the very first u.s. ambassador killed in the line duty in 33 years. stevens was a uc berkeley graduate and last night they held a vigil to honor their fallen brother. many expressed extreme sorrow and pride. >> although we are saddened by his death, we are proud of our brother for sacrificing his life in service to our country. >> stevens, we can tell you, went on from beckrkeley to recee a law degree from uc hastings in san francisco. his colleagues there say he always knew he wanted to work in

diplomatic service and that he was a very courageous and dedicated man. at the center of this unfolding international crisis is a small independent movie initially only screened inside a small southern california theater. nbc news has decided not to air clips of this 14-minute controversial film which mocks muslims and the prophet muhammad. so far there are very few details available about the production group responsible for it. attempts to reach the filmmaker have led to a 55-year-old man in los angeles who claims he did not make the film, but he says he knows the filmmaker who apparently made the film to support coptic christian beliefs. the church, meantime, has denounced this film. the actors in that film say they weren't even told what the film was actually about or given an accurate script. a statement released on behalf of the cast and crew says, quote, we are 100% not behind this film and were grossly misled about its intent and purpose. we are deeply saddened by the

tragedies that have occurred. now, the actors say their lines were actually dubbed over in post production by that producer and had editing team on the film. the trailer was first posted online back in july and didn't attract much attention or much notice until last week when a second version of that trailer was posted in arabic. now that the controversial video is being viewed by thousands on youtube and it apparently -- well, we're being told that it will not be coming down any time soon. google, which runs youtube, says it will not stop people from watching the 14-minute clip but it is blocking the movie from being shown on sites in both libya and in egypt. the company says the video does fit within the youtube guidelines. we did speak with a few bay area islamic leaders who say while the video is extremely offensive, they do understand about free speech. meantime, the tech analyst that we spoke with believes if google

actually took it down, this might actually encourage more violence. >> once you allow violence to dictate your behavior, then people wilma n-- will manipulat you through violence. you don't want to create that pattern. >> the information about who exactly produced this video is still a bit of a mystery. it was posted to youtube by a man by the name of sam bacile but people believe that is just an alias. >> the u.s. embassy in cairo calling that video misguided but that response is not sitting well with presidential candidate mitt romney as the violence in the middle east turns political here at home. tracie potts is live at washgton for us with more on how both candidates are responding to the protests at u.s. embassies. a lot going on. good morning. >> reporter: a lot going on. romney accused the obama administration of sympathizing with the demonstrators by giving that statement, the u.s. embassy did in cairo, but he got a bit of the facts wrong. he accused them of sympathizing

with those behind the attacks. the attacks happened in libya, same issue, different group. the statement that came out was before the attacks. this is what romney said. he accused of administration are not being tough enough. >> when our grounds are being attacked and being breached that the first response of the united states must be outrage. >> reporter: there was no breach at the time in cairo when he was responding to that statement from the embassy in cairo, and now some republicans are saying that romney jumped the gun, things were still developing when he made that statement and now made it a political issue. meantime president obama talking about what happened in libya, those four americans who were killed, saying that he will bring the perpetrators to justice. >> there is no justification for this type of senseless violence. none. >> reporter: and of course now this has spread to other countries like yemen, where

it shapes up for highway 87. add some extra time. let's look out to the peninsula where 101 moves slowly but palo alto past university. here is the construction zone, folks getting ready to do work but not taking any extra lanes. the southbound side moves smoothly as well. 101 moves nicely up through menlo park. no problems accessing onto or off of 101 throughout that area either. through the east bay, west 580 makes things easy to the dublin interchange but look at the backup to where they have just cleared a lane passing by el charo. we'll get a live look at fremont, 880 not a problem. the north bay also moves slowly for 101 in the southbound direction. you know what we'll end it here. marla, we do have issues for the north bay. there is no problem on 101 here but you're talking about another big event. i'll hand it off to you. in regards to the very somber memorial procession that will travel from st. helena to the to vacaville.

that's where thousands of law enforcement officers are gathering to pay tribute to a bay area chp officer killed in the line of duty. today in the bay's christie smith is live in vacaville where this memorial for chp officer kenyon youngstrom is now just three hours away. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. yeah, we are starting to see people arrive this morning. a van delivering flowers, there are rows and rows of chairs set up outside because they're just expecting so many people. of course law enforcement from california across the country. friends of officer kenyon youngstrom and those who never knew him but were so touched by his tragic loss, the seven-year veteran of the chp, husband and father of four. the memorial outside, there is a sign that says god bless chp officer kenyon youngstrom. this starts at 10:00 this morning here in vacaville. the public is invited. i wanted to show you real quickly, i just got my hands on the program.
